World War II returns to SAG!

Well, it never really left, but for the last weekend in June we had a rare occurrence these days, both games being played at the club were set in World War II.  When I and my son first joined the group, back in 2012, it was Flames of War (3rd edition) nearly every Friday night. That was a lot of fun, but most of us really disliked 4th edition. In the last few years we've branched back out considerably, with Bolt ActionArt de la GuerreKings of WarFrostgrave, and other games catching our interest.

Chris & Chuck played a Mein Panzer game that they fought to a draw, while Ken, Wayne, Ren, and I played out a Winter War engagement in Bolt Action between the Finns and the Russians.

Chuck's Russians face off against Chris' Hungarians.

Paul and Wayne's Russians took on Ken and Ren's Finns.

The Russians advance from the left side of the board,
while the Finns advance on the right.

A Russian T-34 and some infantry advance on either
side of the low ridge at the center of the board.

Supported by a Maxim in the woods and a mortar in
the field, Russian infantry advances.

A Finn tank advances on the Finn's right
against a mass of Russian artillery and tanks.

Failing to bag a T-34, Finnish infantry falls back under
heavy machine gun and small arms fire.

The Russian 45mm AT gun has been failing to take out the
Finn armored car all game. Then, out of nowhere, a squad
of Finns with SMGs appears from nowhere behind on the
Russians' flank!

Wiping out the AT gun and mortar, the Finn's
seize the objectives, easily winning the game!
